Ever Wondered What It Takes to Found a Club? Meet Benjamin.

Benjamin Uranga, UNOZERO Ambassador and Potros FC captain and founder, gives us an inside look behind the motivation, challenges, and goals of founding a football club.

Who is behind Potros FC?

This started as a family affair, where my father, brother, and I decided to take on this challenge.

Why did you decide to embark in this venture?

We wanted to provide talented local players with an opportunity to grow and develop, while playing at a high level of competition.

What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced while building the club?

One of the biggest challenges of starting a club is creating team standards and ensuring all members adhere to those. We recognize it is critical for every member to respect and follow the best practices set by the club in order to maintain a functional organization. We do find this gets easier as the club progresses, and we learn what works and what doesn’t.

Why did you decide to join the UPSL?

We found that the UPSL was organized in a way to would enable us to achieve our goals. The high level of competition and national recognition would allow the club to grow and give our players the opportunity to make it to the next level.

What is the ultimate goal for Potros FC?

Since the UPSL grants access to the U.S. Open Cup, our ultimate goal is to win it. Then, win the CONCACAF Champions League, and finally, win the Club World Cup. Basically, our goal is to always aim high, and grow.
